~ The Wine ~

AL BORGO will be the first winery in Canada to produce wine using these new grape varieties, setting it apart in the industry. These varieties are naturally more resistant to pests and therefore require fewer pesticides to grow and thrive. The result is prestigious, refined wines crafted from healthier, more sustainable grapes.

In another Canadian first, AL BORGO has planted cold-tolerant, disease-resistant vines capable of withstanding winter temperatures as low as –24°C. The winery’s first three varietals will be Sauvignon Rytos, Cabernet Volos, and Soreli.

Our Vintages

We’re also proud to be the first winery in Canada to plant and produce wine from three newly VQA‑approved grape varieties. In June 2025, Ontario expanded its certified list to include Sauvignon Rytos, Soreli FPS, and Cabernet Volos FPS; all now growing at Al Borgo Estates. These exciting additions reflect our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and exceptional taste. Villa Romana Estate Winery is a small family-run winery located on the Beamsville Bench sub-appellation, in the Niagara Peninsula.

The joy of winemaking is rooted deeply in our culture & history, with our heritage based on the spirit of our family’s winery & vineyards in Lanuvio, Italy.  We continue to create natural wines in the old-world tradition.  We put our heart & soul into growing our grapes, hand-harvesting in small lots, with dedication to producing quality wines that we hope you will love.  We believe wine is a beautifully crafted representation of the grapes and the location on which they are grown.  Working with passionate, we’re dedicated to bringing out the best flavours in our wines, from grape to glass.  Welcome to Villa Romana!
